چکیده

SEAWAT is a finite-difference computer code designed to simulate coupled variabledensity ground water flow and solute transport. This paper describes a new version of SEAWAT that adds the ability to simultaneously model energy and solute transport. This is necessary for simulating the transport of heat and salinity in coastal aquifers for example. This work extends the equation of state for fluid density to vary as a function of temperature and/or solute concentration. The program has also been modified to represent the effects of variable fluid viscosity as a function of temperature and/or concentration. The classic HenryHilleke problem is solved with the new code.

MODFLOW/MT3DMS-based simulation of variable-density ground water flow and transport.

This paper presents an approach for coupling MODFLOW and MT3DMS for the simulation of variable-density ground water flow. MODFLOW routines were modified to solve a variable-density form of the ground water flow equation in which the density terms are calculated using an equation of state and the simulated MT3DMS solute concentrations. Changes to the MODFLOW and MT3DMS input files were kept to a...

Investigating future changes in groundwater quantity and quality in the Khash alluvial aquifer through numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modeling

The Khash alluvial aquifer, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, supplies the water needed for agriculture, drinking, and industry in the Khash area. In order to predict the future status of groundwater level and water quality, and to find aquifer management solutions, groundwater flow and solute transport models were developed using MODFLOW and MT3DMS. GMS 10.3 was used to develop the model. Ca...

Recent Developments and Future Directions for MT3DMS and Related Transport Codes

Introduction MT3DMS is a three-dimensional (3D) multispecies contaminant transport model with a modular structure to permit simulation of solute transport processes independently or jointly (Zheng and Wang 1999; Zheng 2009). MT3DMS interfaces directly with the U.S. Geological Survey’s finite-difference ground water flow model, MODFLOW, for the flow solution, and supports all the hydrologic and ...

Use of MT3DMS for Heat Transport Simulation of Shallow Geothermal Systems

The multi-species transport model MT3DMS is applied to simulate heat transport in shallow confined aquifers. This is done by taking advantage of the mathematical similarities between the description of heat and solute transport. A comprehensive analysis on the applicability of MT3DMS (version 5.2) for heat transport simulation of closed shallow geothermal systems is shown. MT3DMS simulations ar...
